Pestalozzi International Village Trust (PIV) remains the only UK organization exclusively dedicated to giving educational scholarships to extremely poor but exceptionally bright young people (aged 16-19) from developing nations. These scholars currently selected from highly disadvantaged areas in Africa and Asia would otherwise be denied the chance to continue beyond a basic education and fulfill their academic and social potential. Working with established in-country NGO partners, we offer scholarships to students that have shown a real commitment to improving the lives of their own countries and communities.
Pestalozzi was a Swiss Educator who believed in holistic education. It is upon his ideals that our organisation is based. Pestalozzi international Village seeks not only to develop the intellect of young people; but works to educate the whole person; the head, heart and hands.
When I met Monica and heard about her passion for social enterprise, it made perfect sense to build links between our organisations. PIV and Visionary Soap are therefore creating a training programme where Pestalozzi students can learn skills in ethical business including making, marketing and sourcing natural beauty products and learning skills in project management and customer service.- Thea Platt, Environmental Education Officer, Pestalozzi International Village, July 2007
'Visionary Soap Company sell 15 types of different organic soap from Anise Poppy Seed to Patchouli as well as bath melts, body butters, lip balms and body oils. Based in Sussex and regularly spotted at local farmer's markets, Visionary are "first and foremost a fair trade company". Their ingredients are sourced from cooperatives around the world. Visionary products contain no synthetic fragrances, parabens, petroleum based ingredients nor animal products. The packaging is of course minimal and recyclable, in line with their serious consideration of their environmental as well as their ethical and social responsibility. My choice? A bag of six organic shea butter bath melts (£13.95) in a range of natural scents tied in an unbleached muslin sack. Each melt can be used for 2 to 3 relaxing baths. Hmmm, pure luxury!' -Ella Rabaiotti, New Consumer Magazine, February 2007
'I discovered this small, hand-made soap company on a farmers' market stall while I was selling Judges Bakery bread in Hastings and I've been buying it ever since. A lot of the ingredients in the soaps and body butters come from women's cooperatives, with high levels of organic ingredients - and they're simply but stylishly packaged, beautifully fragranced with essentil oils. My fave soaps are the patchouli and the ylang ylang....'' -Jo Fairley of Green & Blacks, the Award Winning Judges Bakery and beautybible.com.
